Associate Dean of Nursing

Job Summary/Basic Function:
Coordinate and lead the planning, development, management, review and assessment of the Nursing Department and its programs. Create and maintain an environment conducive to teaching and learning.

1. Develop, monitor, and manage nursing program budget, including determination of lab fees and oversight of program grants.
2. Responsible for staffing courses, overseeing recruiting and hiring of nursing faculty.
3. Provide meaningful faculty and staff development opportunities to enhance quality of instruction and student engagement. Observes and evaluates nursing faculty teaching as provided by the faculty contract; serves as administrative representative on Appointment Review Committees for nursing faculty; assists associate faculty who meet criteria in becoming senior associates; supervises faculty in instruction, advising and administrative duties for which they are receiving stipends or reassigned time.
4. Monitor, manage, and assess the effectiveness of nursing department programs and promote data-driven decision making. Attend and represent the views of Nursing faculty on administrative committees and advisory bodies such as Instructional Council and Dean's Council.
5. Keep current on standards for evaluation of nursing programs in Washington State through applicable RCWs and WACs and contact with the Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission (Nursing Commission); complete annual report to the Nursing Commission and file Substantive Changes as required. Oversee compliance of NAC program with SBCTC and Nursing Commission requirements
6. Keep current on the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) policies and requirements; ensure compliance of program with ACEN Standards and Criteria, file required Annual Report and communicate Substantive Changes according to ACEN guidelines. Oversee writing of Self Study and preparation for accreditation site visits. Oversee implementation of ACEN recommendations and any required follow up reports.
7. Advance the College's commitment to diversity and building cultural competencies through monitoring, assessment and management of admissions policies and practice (including re-admission appeals), curriculum design and instruction, assessment and grading, and termination/dismissals. Model cultural competencies in all interpersonal contacts.
8. Ensure quarterly college reports and program plan are complete and timely; assists department head in ensuring that outcomes are being assessed in program plan.
9. Manage disputes, complaints, and concerns of instructors about individual students or vice versa, including allegations of cheating, plagiarism or other unethical behavior, grade disputes, issues regarding Essential Qualifications, and complaints about admission or dismissal. Encourage filing of BIT reports as appropriate by faculty.
10. Foster a collegial and collaborative work environment for students, faculty, and staff; promote consensus-building models in groups meetings and other collaborative processes.
11. Coordinate and lead mentoring activities between full-time and part-time faculty and ensure that associate faculty are oriented to the College, the nursing program, and their courses, and that they are developing professionally and growing as instructors.
12. Build and maintain partnerships with Nursing employers and clinical sites. Ensure affiliation agreements with clinical sites are developed, maintained, updated and in compliance.
13. Provide service to the college by serving on committees, maintaining confidentiality, exhibiting ethical work conduct, and maintaining professional relationships.
14. Attend and represent the program at CNEWS meetings and at other regional meetings for nursing educators and program administrators.
15. Ensure that admissions procedures and policies are faculty-driven and in compliance with the policies and goals of the College.


Minimum Qualifications:
Masters in Nursing or Masters of Science in Nursing from a nursing education program accredited by the United States Department of Education
An unencumbered Washington State Registered Nursing license or ability to be granted same by date of hire
Preparation in education that includes teaching adults, adult learning theory, teaching methods, curriculum development, and curriculum evaluation, or two years of teaching experience in nursing education that demonstrates this type of preparation
Curriculum development and administration experience
Five years of experience as a registered nurse including two years of experience in nursing education
Current knowledge of nursing practice at the associate degree program level
Demonstrates commitment to diversity and fostering an inclusive environment


Preferred Qualifications:
Experience participating in or leading an accreditation process
Administrative or leadership experience in nursing education or health care
Grant writing and/or grant management experience
Experience using simulation in health professions teaching

Base salary is $84,645, plus state allocation Nursing high demand premium pay $11,187.24 = $95,832.24 total.
Additional high demand premium pay is contingent upon renewal of state funding.
