ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF NURSING/SKILLS LAB INSTRUCTOR
HIGHER EDUCATION CENTER AT OTAY MESA
10-MONTH, TENURE TRACK POSITION


LOCATION: 8100 GIGANTIC STREET, SAN DIEGO, CA 92154

This position may include a combination of day, evening, weekend and extension site assignments.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Director of Nursing and Health Occupations Programs, assume a leadership role in the organization and management of the nursing programs skills lab. Teach clinical lab skills to CNA, VN and ADN nursing students. Supervise lab practice and remediation sessions as well as provide tutoring to the varied nursing students. Coordinate all Skills Lab activities and requirements including but not limited to: scheduling of rooms, and skills lab exercises; ordering and organizing supplies and equipment; activing as teaching resource for faculty

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in Nursing AND at least one year of experience as a registered nurse providing direct patient care in Medical-Surgical, Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Geriatric or Critical Care Nursing AND an unencumbered California license to practice as a registered nurse AND at least one year of experience teaching courses related to nursing OR have taken a course which includes a practicum in teaching nursing.

Experience working in a community with a similar diversity pattern as is found in the service area for Southwestern College is desirable.

A short teaching demonstration may be required of those invited for an interview.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Upon initial employment, full-time faculty members are placed on the salary schedule
based on years of experience and education. The maximum initial placement for experience is Step 6. Faculty members are encouraged to continue their professional development through additional study qualifying them for advancement on the salary schedule.
