Position Description
The StudentHealth Center (SHC)is a primary care clinicproviding services to enrolled students.In addition, the SHC manages immunization compliance and is a resources and liaison for the opt-out student health insurance program.
Under the direction of clinic administration this position is responsible for providing a wide range of administrative and clinical support while coordinating and facilitating the smooth and efficient flow of patients through the Student Health Center. This position often serves as the first point of contact for patients and parents, requiring an awareness of the psychosocial needs of a patient. As such, this person must have the knowledge and skill to support peopleon all levels and managea multitude of diverse assignments. This position reports to the Senior Associate Director of the Student Health Center.
Essential dutiesand responsibilities
Clinical/Medical Assistant
- Perform patient check in, prepare patient, and assist with clinical exams as needed.
- Administer immunizations and medications intramuscularly and subcutaneously as directed by provider.
- Maintains competency and performs venipuncture, basic specimen processing, and waived testing as delegated.
- Assist with quality measures including maintenance and recording of CLIA requirements and calibration of equipment as needed.
- Ordering medical supplies as directed by Sr Assoc Director
- Responsible for opening and closing of exam rooms and lab including daily and weekly equipment checks.
- Supports clinic MA schedule and performs clerical duties as needed.
- Provide emergency care to patients when necessary, maintaining CPR certification.
- Clean and examine exam tables, equipment, and other work areas following current infection control guidelines.
- Stock exam rooms and ensure supplies are up to date, replace expired supplies as needed.
Clerical/Front Desk
- Responsible for opening and closing of front desk and lobby in support of administrative assistant
- Communicate regularly with clinic administration and actively participate in team meetings for effective problem solving and communication.
- Provide front desk support: answering phone and email, scheduling, checking patients in and out, entering insurance information, and collecting fees.
- Responsible for opening and closing of front desk and lobby when administrative assistant not available.
- Assists with immunization compliance and familiar with student health insurance plan
- Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities
- Able to work independently and as a team with excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Effectively communicate with clinic staff especially around clinic flow and if help is needed.
- Promotes positive patient relations maintaining confidentiality, privacy, and dignity.
- Excellent attendance.
- Computer skills with ability to utilize and navigate between multiple systems. And experience with electronic medical record keeping, including documenting, and maintaining patient care records.
- Understanding of medical terminology, medical practice, and clinic policies in providing patient care
- Experience with examination and diagnostic procedures and use and maintenance of medical equipment used for patient care.
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish safe work.
Education, Experience, & Certification Requirements
- Medical Assistant with certificate from an accredited program and maintains active, unencumbered license to work in Washington state.
- Minimum of one (1) years' experience as a medical assistant and graduate of a formal medical assistant program
- Maintains American Health Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) certification.
- This position requires a criminal history background check.
- Preferred in addition to above:
Two (2) or more years' experience as a medical assistant and graduate of a formal medical assistant program.
Two (2) or more years' experience front desk experience - phone management, scheduling, check in and check out.
Recent experience with venipuncture
Physical requirements
- Occasionally lift, push, pull and/or move up to 20 pounds.
- Repetitive motion of upper body required for extended use of computer.
- Required specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Compensation at a Glance
Salary Range: $28.00 - $30.00 per hour
Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.
